Welcome to LifeStart!
Hi, hello, hey there,
If you’re reading this you’re probably trying to work out what LifeStart is, what we do, and how we can help you. You may have perused the website, our Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, … ok there’s a lot to take in. So, we decided that we’d write a blogpost to explain a little bit more of who we are and what you can get from us.
Some of the best things in life come in threes: 3 Wise Men, 🙈🙉🙊, 3 Teaspoons in a Tablespoon. LifeStart is no different. We have 3 pillars which guide us and remain our main focuses. We host real business challenges, organise career mentoring events, and we focus on connecting and elevating our community.
How do you get your first experience of work when every job asks you for previous work experience? How can you practice or learn business skills if you’re a full-time student? How can you win £1,000 in cash, mentorships, and work experience placements? The answer is easy: you take your chance and submit to a LifeStart Challenge!
Lifestart Challenges have been created to help students gain skills by answering real business problems. They simulate aspects of the working world and give students an opportunity to gain the skills and experience that entry-level jobs are looking for.
Our LifeStart Challenges are always based on varied topics and focus on a variety of industries. We’re about to launch four challenges; some of them will launch in multiple stages.
Submitting to a LifeStart Challenge is easy. All you need to do is create a video pitch and write a short passage to describe your idea. You can submit on your own or as a group. We don’t care about what you may have done before, who you are, or where you’ve come from; what’s important is the quality of the submission and examples of why your idea will work.
The LifeStart Community
“For students, by students.” has always been our mantra from the beginning. Therefore the LifeStart Community is the most important thing about us and what we’re most proud of. You, the LifeStart Community, are the beating heart of LifeStart.
Even though we’re just starting out, we’ve already had so many successes. From Silver challenge winner Jack receiving a job offer, to our first ever Gold Challenge Winner Kristi being featured for her challenge idea, or even sharing your incredible internship experiences! We’re so proud of our amazing community and we love to brag about it.
That’s why sharing with and amongst the community is important. It not only reminds everyone of how great we all are, we also can learn from each other’s success. We’re hoping to empower you to find a dream career that you’ll love. Whether you think you know where you’re going or not, we want to help you get there.
That’s why we publish blog posts every week, share interesting insights on Instagram and have a weekly Facebook live every Sunday where we let you know what’s been happening in the community and giveaway prizes too.
Add us to your Linkedin and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to win weekly prizes and hear about LifeStart News.
LifeStart does a lot online so that students can access us from almost anywhere, but we also appreciate the value of meeting up in real life. Since we’ve started, we’ve already hosted countless events and in the coming year we have plans to go to Bangor in North Wales, Liverpool and maybe even Scotland.
We organise large and small free events to try and cater to everyone. Our big #LifestartFest events are where we invite 100s of like-minded students to meet for an afternoon of inspiring speakers, networking opportunities and pizza. We bring along mentors that students can connect with, as well as provide tips on how to approach challenges. #LifeStartFest is a celebration of students and the successes that we continue to see from our community. We want to help create lasting friendships, inspire new ideas and give a helping hand into the world of work.
We also like to organise smaller events that allow for quality interactions and for mentorships to form. We do this through our #LifeStartCareerChats, where we invite someone from a specific industry to meet six students over dinner or afternoon tea to tell their story and give advice. We cover all food as we want everybody to have the same opportunity to learn from those more experienced. We believe that mentoring can be one of the most valuable tools in creating a career that you love. We write a blogpost for each #LifeStartCareerChat recounting the conversations that were had and guidance received. Read one of our favorite Career Chats with Eva Liparova.
Any student can come along to an event just by signing up through Eventbrite. You can see what events are coming up here. If you have an idea who you think would make a great mentor or would like to get involved in organising a #LifestartCareerChat near you, just email email@example.com.
